Women’s Heart Health
Texas Heart Institute at Baylor College of Medicine’s Center for Women’s Heart & Vascular Health was created to help educate women about their true risks and to encourage them to take ownership of their cardiovascular health by living a heart-healthy lifestyle. Our Center is committed to working with women to provide access to current and comprehensive educational materials, online assessment tools and health news.
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for women in the United States, yet it is often misunderstood, underdiagnosed, and undertreated in female patients. Women can experience different symptoms than men, particularly during a heart attack, and face unique risk factors related to pregnancy, menopause, and certain chronic conditions. Raising awareness, improving prevention, and ensuring early detection are critical to saving lives and empowering women to take control of their heart health.
Dr. Stephanie Coulter, a pioneer in cardiovascular research and education for women, and Dr. Heather Pemberton, a specialist in non-invasive cardiac imaging and heart care during pregnancy, lead the center to provide comprehensive, personalized care tailored to each woman’s needs. Their expertise ensures that women receive the specialized attention necessary for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of heart conditions at every stage of life.
