NCDs

eHealth Project

Chronic disease patients such as those with type 2 diabetes and hypertension need long term care. This is to keep their blood pressure and glucose in check and in turn prevent complications which could lead to a bigger financial burden.

With a doctor-to-patient ratio in Ghana at 1:8481 and the rising numbers of chronic disease patients, it is relevant to explore other avenues to curb the rising epidemic.

The option of telemedicine could add secondary but crucial benefits such as removing long patient waiting hours and improving general health-seeking behavior of the average Ghanaian local.

The aim of this project is to assess telemedicine as an option for NCDs detection, prevention and control.

Primary objective:

1. To study the acceptability and feasibility of a telemedicine model for diabetes and hypertension care in a semi-rural area in Ghana.

Secondary objectives:

2. To assess the prevalence of hypertension and type 2 diabetes in the population.

3. To determine risks of developing complications among the hypertensives and diabetics in the study population.

4. To evaluate the relationship between risk factors and the development of hypertension and type 2 diabetes.
